I love documenting families in all their newness in their own home. Baby’s first week or two. Still sleepy. Parents adjusting. I’m very thankful and grateful for clients that believe in me. I think most people are afraid that their home isn’t clean enough or beautiful enough to document, but really home is where it’s at. Your home is a curated place of love and memories, familiarity and intimacy. And honestly, it’s you in all your realness that create beautiful images. So thank you Noah and Whitney for the honor of documenting your little family in all it’s realness.
Robbins Family// Lifestyle Shoot
I don’t post family portraits often. To be completely honest, it’s more natural for me to shoot a wedding. I walk into a wedding knowing exactly what I want to shoot. The story, the emotions, the small in between intimate moments. Weddings are overflowing with it. Love is saturated all around you.
With families I want to shoot the same things–the story, the emotions, and the intimate moments. Often times what family photo shoots often lack is the story. And that is why I LOVE lifestyle shoots. They are family portraits with a story.
The way you get your little ones dressed in the mornings. Your daughter’s favorite book. The way you make meals together. The home you’ve made together. Your favorite tree in your backyard blooming. The way you do bath time with you newest addition.
Lifestyle shoots are all about celebrating person-hood.
I’m a huge fan of that.

Spring

This is the time of year where we photogs take a moment to think.
To take a break and figure out this year’s goals.
This year I want more art in my life.
I want to learn how to love the people in front of my lens better. kinder. authentic.
I want people to know how beautifully they are made and that they can make beauty with the very life, love, passion, desires they have inside.
So here’s to a year, of pursuing art and pursuing people.
Winter Film
Film is in line with humanity. Maybe because it’s not photoshopped… everyone’s natural beauty is on display. Or maybe because it’s hard to experience the moment with digital. With film you learn to sit back, breathe, and somehow take the moments in deeper. Either way it makes my heart happy to have my family on film.

Light Painting
How romantic are these two?
I’m finding more and more that I love night photography. There’s so much you can do with it and I love incorporating it into the style of photography I do. There will definitely be more playing around with light painting to come. Till then bask in how sweet these two are.
Michelle
Being a portrait photographer, you naturally hang out with lots of people, but usually those people aren’t other photographers. It’s just us in our business. Sometimes that’s hard because it would be convenient to walk over to the next cubicle and ask advice about how to handle a certain situation or collaborate on a project. This is why it’s so important to meet other photographers–to have a bit of a support system.
I met Michelle in our business class this semester. We chatted about our new businesses, how to do taxes, whats the best way to attract clients that want your style, how we became passionate about photography, etc. Leaving class, I called Bryan and like a giddy kindergartener told him I made a new friend! And not only do we share the same love of photography, but she’s also a babe to photograph =)
